WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Don’t you often think how nice it would be if you could just listen to your own advice?
Describing it simply, hypnosis is putting you in a state where you do.
We all have a part of us that knows what it is you want to do, or not to do. But it’s like there’s another part of you that just won’t listen. It might even prefer to go and do the exact opposite - or keep repeating old behaviour we don’t like. And that can be incredibly frustrating, obviously.
Hypnotherapy - using hypnosis/a trance state - is a tool to go and speak to that part that’s messing things up for you. Not forcing it to do anything it doesn’t want to, just gently coaxing it onto a different path that feels good to you both. Let’s look at it like this: Imagine that you’ve been walking to work the same way every day. It’s sort of straight ahead, not the nicest way - in fact it’s just walking along the motorway - but it gets you there on time most mornings. Then one day at work you speak to one of your colleagues who lives really close to you and she points out there’s a shortcut she always takes to work. It’s just to the right off the motorway, it cuts through a field where there’s a tiny little pond and if you’re lucky, some mornings you might even spot a family of ducks there. The air is cleaner as well. And walking that way actually takes just as long as the old way along the motorway.
You’d start taking the shortcut, wouldn’t you?
If you knew there was a better way, that’s the way you’d prefer to walk from now on, right?
That’s basically what this work is. It’s a way to redirect you onto the more scenic route, and for you to keep taking it. By being in a hypnotic state we’re working directly with your subconscious mind and utilizing the incredible wealth of information, creativity, motivation and knowledge that’s inherently stored there. You’ll be guided towards finding the right way forward in a way that feels safe, natural, comfortable and with a sense of ease.
Ultimately it’s all utilizing neuroplasticity - the brain’s innate ability to change and overwrite mental patterns that may feel limiting to us. It’s taking agency over our experience and our thoughts and shaping life into something that starts feeling better.

WHERE DOES THIS WORK BEST?
HYPNOTHERAPY is done with you in a state of trance to help heighten your responsiveness to helpful suggestions. It works brilliantly for stubborn habituated behaviour and things we tend to repeat often, for example:
Over-eating, addiction, chronic pain patterns and Type 2 Insomnia (waking up multiple times per night).
It can also be a gentle way to bring a sense of clarity to questions you might have been pondering for a while.
NLP (Neuro-Linguistical Programming) on the other hand, is done conversationally and does not require a trance state to be effective. It’s used when the issues are more “dynamic” in nature, for example:
Phobias, Fears (e.g. public speaking), anxiety and Type 1 insomnia (struggling to fall asleep)
These two modalities work wonderfully together and we often seamlessly mix the two in a single session to tackle the issue from various angles.
